The Play’s da T’ing

Took in the gleefully unsubtle The Lieutenant of Inishmore last night at the Lyceum. You can go ahead and believe everything you’ve read — this thing actually is an extraordinarily enjoyable time.

Briefly, it’s a macabre, jet black Irish comedy about the IRA, violence, and, naturally, sweet little kitties. There’s lots of yelling, lots of shooting, lots of blood, and a parade of fun plot twists. Think Tarantino except funnier and less self-conscious. So, instead, think devilish, intelligent, well-told farce with a solid dose of Elmore Leonard and maybe a wee bit of Poe.

Easily one of the most entertaining and satisfying nights at the theahtah to be had in this town right now.

I genuinely get excited when a new post appears. On days that the newest post, is in fact, not new – I’m sad.
