Spidey on Dennet Place
Monday, June 26th, 2006Spider-man is supposed to save someone from a window at the far end of the street (Luquer side of Dennet). I was hoping he’d swing on the clotheslines.

I am a bit disappointed that the OrangeYouGlad gates won’t appear in the film - looks like the wardrobe and actor’s trailers are parked around us.
Rockstar Table Tennis Tourney
Monday, June 26th, 2006We scored an invitation to loft party video game tournament type thing held by Rockstar Games. That’s right, the same guys that brought GTA to the world, have given us something as fierce and realistic but alas, without any illegal activity - TABLE TENNIS! The game is really easy to pick-up and for the first time in my life I schooled all the people I came to the party with. (surprising because I don’t even play video games). In fact, all of the KFR fellas got knocked out by women. Nice! I didn’t make it into the quarter finals, getting trounced by some ringer, but I’m sure that with a bit more practice I can get to the big leagues. The game was really a lot of fun, the movement was smooth, the competition was exciting and the wings from dominoes were delicious. I fear that a 360 purchase is in our future.

The hot, sweltery sweet summer months are the time for movie studios to descend on our lovely and picturesque neighborhood. This is posted up on Smith street today (from about 9th street to 2nd place). I believe it is more Spiderman but I’ll be sure to nosey my way into some info/pictures.
More Spiderman 3 Pics - as expected
Friday, June 23rd, 2006Really it is just too hot and muggy to hang out all night trying to get a good picture of Topher Grace or some other Spider-Man star/starlet (Topher would be my first choice tho) — but we did swing past the Spider-Man 3 hubbub up on Court to see what was up. The most interesting sight = all of the Carroll Gardens residents out on the town on a Thursday night.
p.s. I’m sure this event will be more than amply covered by our fellow bloggers - so you might want to look around for some good celebrity sightings.

Carroll Gardens residents taking in the sights. Check out the new facade on the theater.

More onlookers.

In this exciting scene, a cab drives by with Mary Jane in it. Peter Parker, standing on the corner, notices her out of the corner of his eye (or perhaps with his spidey sense!) and turns his head in the direction of the cab. They shot this one a few times. I certainly hope this isn’t all they were in the neighborhood for.

It was hot and hot and muggy out tonight - certainly no weather for REAL steam. The ice cream truck in the background proves that this is just hollywood steam.

There was a bunch of fancy equipment too.
Spidey 3 - mini report
Thursday, June 22nd, 2006
Just got back from long walk around the block and found out that Spiderman 3 filming isn’t going to happen until about 6:00pm (and go until about 1-3am) but they are starting to unroll cables and set up cranes and lights and stuff. One fella did tell me that they were going to be filming a fight scene tonight. We’ll see if we can get a few good pictures later this evening.
3rd Street Block Party
Wednesday, June 21st, 2006
It seem that while I do manage to make it to these events, I never come home with anything but a photo of a fire hydrant. (see court street summerfest). Never mind the bounce room, the DJ, the local comedian and all the families bbq’n on their front stoop - i was entranced by fire hydrant #8, it has a sprinkler nozzle! Brilliant!
Brooklyn BlogFest
Wednesday, June 21st, 2006Most of the 423smith gang will be heading over to the Brooklyn Blog Fest on Thursday night, where our secret and not so exciting identities will be revealed. Maybe we’ll see ya there?

The official coney island bathing suit (2005)
What is your favorite spot is in the city to spend a sunny day? With any luck there will be some sun on Sunday and I ain’t gonna waste it! My personal favorite summer spot of all time is Coney Island! You can’t beat a simple subway ride that rewards you with a huge beach, a historic coaster, go-karts and a parade of folks sunning in colorful tighty-whities.
So, whats your favorite sunny spot in the city and are pants optional?

I plan to eat at least one meal this weekend at the 4th annual Big Apple BBQ. The BBQ and Blockparty takes place at Madison Square park this Saturday and Sunday. I’m hoping for some south carolina style vinegar/hot sauce bbq - my fav!
For directions, menu and some info on the pitmasters check out the event’s cool site.
Meat Pie Family Tree
Wednesday, June 7th, 2006
While singing my heart out last Friday at our favorite local bar Lido (200 Columbia St), I made a quick run to Dub Pies across the street for a tasty treat. Dub pies are traditional Australian/ New Zealand meat pies of about 5″ in diameter and filled with a variety of meaty, veggie, cheesy, potatoey flavor. I must admit I’ve only had the Shepherd’s pie (with mashed potato topping) but it is absolutely delicious and I look forward to sampling the rest. I’m a sucker for anything in a crust so I might be a bit bias.
Not only are the pies delicious but the folks there are really friendly. Last night (while again down at Lidos) I ran over for a coffee. Even though they had just closed the fella (owner?) unlocked the place for me and fixed me a cup of coffee. Being the sometimes ditz that I am, I asked if this was some sort of Jamaican inspired pie (mistaking the “Down Under Bakery - DUB” for a Jamaican musical reference and ignoring the huge sign outside that clearly says Australian/New Zealand) which prompted a nice discussion of the of meat pie family tree. He explained that the Jamaican meat pie and the Australian meat pie are both children of the British meat pie. But I can assure you they are both vastly improved versions. This nice guy also pointed out that it was in fact the Egyptians who may have first developed the meat pie. So there you have it - eat meat pies.
Sights and Sounds of Coney Island
Tuesday, June 6th, 2006For a little bit of Coney Island flavor check out this tiny clips I took last year at the Boardwalk. “Shoot the Freak in the Freak’n Head” bally-ho, a bit of cursing on the handball court, and some dancers.
