What’s your favorite outside eatery?

Before the weather turns prohibitively balmy, I thought I’d query the 423 smith readers to find out what your favorite outdoor spot is in the neighborhood? (Park slope too - I’d love some recommendations) I know a lot of back gardens have closed due to complaints by neighbors (boo!), but what is your favorite joint of those precious spots that are left? Pit Stop? Gowanus Yatch Club? Good food? Good bar? Good atmosphere? Good people watching? I’m partial to PJ Hanley’s myself and love the addition of the ping-pong table, there are always seats available and the food is delicious!

I have to admit to still enjoying Pacifico when we make it up there. Is Fragole’s back yard open again…? That place is swell.

Pacifico is cozy and I love their tacos, but watch out for their margaritas, they’re dangerous!

In the Slope I like Sette on 7th ave. and 3rd st. Garden face the street but still nice and the Italian food is really good, especially the pizzettes.

I also like Rosewater on Union btw 5th andf 6th….mostly organic too!

Paninotecca on Smith has a great garden, a great menu, and great summertime cocktails.

I have not been to Spumoni Gardens but A Brooklyn Life recently went and they weren’t too pleased - http://www.abrooklynlife.com/2006/05/car_trips_lb_sp.html

A Brooklyn Life can go to Hell. That hack, elitist yuppie of a writer (”We rented a car for the weekend with the intention of going places we wouldn’t normally go” — this is what you say about Bensonhurst, but you call your blog “A Brooklyn Life”?) can go back to the mid-West, or Florida, or wherever the fuck else he came from, where he obviously didn’t grow up around Italians or Italian food. The Sicilian slices there are terrific — which is saying a lot, considering I never liked Sicilian pizza in the first place. A Brooklyn Life can go back to Pizza Hut, the rest of us can go to Spumoni Gardens.

Dan, no offense, but you sound like a whiny goombah local. If anyone reads these comments, in your defense, I personally know you usually aren’t one of these, so I’ll just say you maybe have a little too much invested in SG. Although pizza does inspire fierce loyalty. Anyway, maybe these guys just had a bad pie. It happens!

Fugghedaboutit! Seriously, I thought the review was poorly written, first and foremost — I was half joking with the insinuation that they wouldn’t know good pizza because they’re not natives. But, as someone who grew up here and whose family is from Brooklyn, I do take some umbrage at lines like, “I have had better pizza at Sbarro.” SG isn’t the best pizza I’ve ever had — that title goes to Joe & Pat’s and Goodfellas on Staten Island — but I’d be curious to know who ABL sees as a maker of a good/better Sicilian slice. Plus, they skipped the Spumoni, which is the real reason to go there in the first place.

    Indeed. Too-shay, my friend. Too-shay.
