I was cleaning out my computer yesterday when I came across this photo from last year. The sunny weather has inspired me to post this cheery photo of an amazing double rainbow we saw from our rooftop. It spanned from downtown Brooklyn over park slop. (these pictures - roughly composited - were taken may 05) .
I know we’re a little late on the draw here at 423, but here’s a few pics from Tuesday night’s pooch-a-thon at MSG. Winners barked, losers barked more and tried to sniff our crotch, and stadium vendors walked around in tuxes hawking white wine in plastic glasses.
If you hadn’t heard, that fuzzy fella in the last photo there was the weiner. Tune in next week when you’ll hear Miss Piggy say:
To most people it would make little sense for 2 people living in small Brooklyn apartment to sacrifice half of the available storage space for a Christmas village that is displayed for just 2 weeks per year. But for us the lure (and entrapment) of a subscription based Simpsons Christmas Village was too much to resist. Check out our flickr album of this year’s display.
Here is a quick look at our last few days.
Dec 23rd.
Took the car to Hollywood Car Wash (per suggestion of Cosmo at Frank’s place) and got a triple coat - mutlicolor wax! Nice.
Followed up on a lead from a previous post - and went to Defontes for a sandwich. Why haven’t I done that sooner? My cousin Ned and I ordered the Valentino - thinly sliced, breaded and fried eggplant with mozarella nd peppers. The perfect sandwich!
Dec 24th Christmas Eve:
Took the subway in, and bothered this guy for his picture. If you see him - give him a good couple of dollars (performing up in time square)
Did some walking around the city. Stopped by the ice rink at Bryant Park.

Stopped in for some Mandoo. (Best dumplings in the city outside of the Fried Dumpling shop on mosco street - china town)
Met up at Chumley’s
And sang some carol’s in Washington Square Park.
Dec 25th Christmas Day:
After opening some gifts and watching the cats chow down on some ribbons:
We went into Chinatown for some dim sum at Dim Sum Go Go. (photos to come)
We went time square to meet up with the rest of the city for an afternoon showing of King Kong. This was the most crowded I’d ever seen the theater….ever! The movie was a lot of fun, and with the exception of multiple babies crying in the audience very enjoyable. (poor kids, but really - who brings an infant to a 3 hour movie ?)

Dec 26th
We took the Yeti up to Rockefeller center.
Andrew took off this morning on his bicycle - headed for the city, hordes of people traffic and adventure. I’m just hoping his glasses don’t fog up and his ears stay warm. Here is a quick pic of our local stop - closed for the strike.
Last night we had a fun evening of running around the city.
We started off down in Dumbo at Jan Larsen Fine Art, (a.k.a., Gallerie at TheXpo) where our studio mate and blog partner in crime - Lj - has a series of lock paintings in the latest show.
Here are some pictures from the gallery:

We also went for a stroll and got some ice cream at the ice cream factory and looked at the pretty River Cafe and Brooklyn Bridge lights.
Then we hit the city for a late night screening of Raiders of the Lost Ark at the Sunshine theater. We arrived early to get our tickets and then stopped into stopped at Katz Deli for a snack. I got the matzo ball soup, and managed to snap a picture of the sandwich/pickle delight of our neighbor. .

Saw this walking down smith street - pretty neat. I hope somebody drops one down in front of our studio. I can make out the term “spektor” but haven’t figured it out yet.
Boothbay Harbor Maine isn’t exactly around the corner from 423 smith - but it is a lovely place to go for Thanksgiving. I got my butt whooped at Risk by my little brother, but it was still well worth the trip.

I spent a lovely day this Halloween weekend at Green-Wood Cemetery and have added some new photos to my website.

Ok, so this is slightly old news - but we thought we should update you on the growing cast of characters at 423 smith. Recently our landlady Mrs. G brought home a rooster - a rooster named Johnny. We managed to capture our first encounter with Johnny on video.
He has since escaped many a times (we think he is looking for female companionship). A few weeks ago, on one of the hotest days of the summer, the local po-po came by to take johnny to the pokey for public drunkeness and I think even flashing. It took over 12 police officers to subdue him. And he spent the afternoon cooling off downtown. Mrs. G eventually paid his bail and he was back at his post announcing the time of day at 20 minute intervals that evening.
